Frideriki Klarevas, 78, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2017, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle against cancer.

Raised on the Greek island of Ikaria, she was one of eight children born to the late Stelios and Christina Plakas.  She came to the United States in 1968 with her husband James and infant son Louis, and worked tirelessly to ensure her family’s success running the old Hart Restaurant on Hazle Avenue.

A devout Greek Orthodox Christian, Frideriki’s faith never wavered.  She cherished the bonds she shared with her fellow parishioners of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was a proud member of the philanthropic Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America, New York City Chapter.

But unequivocally Frideriki’s greatest passion was her family.  She was happiest when her home was overflowing with children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  Indeed, nothing brought her greater joy than sewing the rips in their clothing, feeding them comically oversized meals, and slipping them “pizza and movie money.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Athina, Kyriaki, and Maria; and her brother Ioannis (“John”).

In addition to her husband, James, Frideriki is survived by her son Louis and his partner Rada Ghemigian, Queens, NY; her son Steven and his wife Daun, Fairfax, VA; her three grandchildren, James, Calvert, and Zoe; and her sisters Ermioni, Konstantina, and Giolanda.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 32 East Ross St, Wilkes-Barre. Father Gabriel Nicholas will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 1250 S. Main St., Hanover Twp. Please go directly to church if you will be attending the service.

Family and friends may visit at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., Wilkes-Barre, on Friday from 5-8 P.M. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 P.M.
