I have lost my best friend and partner of more than 50 years to the effects of emphazema and COPD.  Although he fought a courageous battle, Frederick T. Kile, husband of Jean Marie (Martin) Kile, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Rapid Recovery River Run.  Fred had just celebrated his 73rd  birthday on July 14.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Fred was the son of the late Helen (Marshall) and Frederick J. Kile.  He attended E.L. Meyers High. Fred was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Cuban Crisis.  Until his retirement, Fred served as a Corrections Officer at SCI Retreat for over 20 years.

Fred enjoyed a variety of vacations including trips to Disney, Las Vegas, cruising and whale watching.  He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed doing yard work and loved watching his favorite TV programs.  Fred was a “regular” at many area restaurants including Ferris’s Lunch and Red Lobster.

He was a loyal Wilkes-Barre Penguins Hockey fan and had season tickets since the doors opened at the arena.  When attending a show at the FM Kirby Center, if there was a hockey game the same night he would have his portable radio and headset with him to listen to the game.  He was advised not to holler “score.”

Fred was a kind and generous soul who would not hesitate to do a favor for family or friends.  He will be missed by the many lives he has touched.

Fred’s family would like to thank his dedicated, caring physician, Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, the staff at Celtic Hospice and the staff at River Run Nursing Home for the care they provided.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Kile.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Jean Marie, his daughter Jean Marie and son-in-law (and pinochle partner) Michael McVeigh; sisters Joyce (Edward) Reiner; Diane Richard; nieces Joanne Seitzinger; Kathy Messerschmidt; Sheryl (Patrick) De Armitt; Elizabeth Bromfield; nephews, Gary Reiner; Mark (Tammy) Reiner, nephews Joseph (Lori) Richard; Stephen (Tracey) Richard; and Michael Paul Kile.  He is also survived by several cousins, and we can’t forget his grand cat, Callie.

A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held at the Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral Home, 465 South Main Street,  Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, August 16 from 5-7 PM.  A Celebration of Life service will begin at 7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Luzerne County.
