Helen Miller, 96, passed peacefully on Monday June 7, 2021, at her home in Moosic, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Moosic, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Mary Chisdock. Helen lived most of her life in Moosic and Duryea, with a short stay in Louisiana after marrying John J. Miller (MSGT. Army Air Corp), her one true love who was stationed there during the waning years of WWII.
In the tradition of the greatest generation, Helen worked and served during the war and after as a seamstress and ultimately as a dedicated homemaker and mother. Her strong faith and her extremely loving and giving nature encouraged her to adopt five infant children and support others attempting to do the same. She was known for keeping her home immaculate and making it the central gathering point where all the family would gather and celebrate all holidays and reunions. The feeling of comfort from her home was a result of Helen's care and love. Anyone visiting would immediately feel her welcoming presence and be compelled to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee, or something wonderful she would quickly whip up. Her love and dedication to her family and friends was unsurpassed. She will be greatly missed but fondly remembered.
The last of her generation, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Miller, parents Peter and Mary Chisdock; brothers, Peter Jr., Michael, Charles, John, Peter III; sister, Anna Kovelesky, and grandson Mark Odgers.
She is survived by her children, John Miller and Linda Browne, Colorado; Debra Odgers, Moosic; Annette Jeffers and Mike Clark, Moosic; Joseph and Marcella Miller, Harding, and Charles and Laura Miller, New Hope; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Helen's great love will be held at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish at Holy Rosary Church in Duryea, PA, at 11:00 AM Friday June 11, 2021, with interment following at St. Johns the Baptist Roman Catholic Cemetery, Duryea. For those wishing to pay respects a brief visitation will be held at Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 728 Main Street Avoca, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM, Friday, June 11, 2021, preceding the funeral service at the church.
The Family would like to thank all departments of the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania and Compassionate Care Hospice for the care and compassion they have shown over the past 18 months. Their time with Helen allowed them to love her as much as we all do and only further demonstrates the impact she has had on all the lives she touched.
We all smile knowing she is reunited with her love and resting peacefully with God. We love you Nana!!!
