Helen Kathleen (Cummings) Fawbush

Helen Kathleen (Cummings) Fawbush, 91, of Kingston, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2015 at HCR Manor Care, Kingston.

Born in Plymouth on September 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late David and Helen (Jones) Cummings of Larksville.  She was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1941

Helen was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed being a homemaker and playing cards with her girlfriends.

From 1941 to 1945, she was employed by Western Union in Washington, DC and in Wilmington, DE--where she met her future husband while helping him send a telegram to his mother when he got home from WWII in U.S. Navy.  Helen then married and moved to Minot, ND, where she gave birth to twins before moving back to Wilkes-Barre.  After her son and daughter were grown, she was employed by United Retail Grocers Association until retiring in the 1980’s.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Leland D. “Lee” Fawbush, who passed away in 1995, and her brother, David Cummings, who passed away in 1981.

Surviving are her son, Douglas (Janis) Fawbush, Nuangola; daughter Sandy (Pat) Howard, Miami, FL; grandchildren, Dougie (Janine) Fawbush and Lynn (Matt) Shafer; several great-grandchildren; nephew Edward Cummings and niece Elizabeth Anne Cummings and her husband, Thomas Glorfield; sisters-in-law, Joyce Rock Cummings and Juliet Byrd (Howells) Fluke.

A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, July 10, at 2:00PM at the Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main Street,  Wilkes-Barre with Reverend Douglas Posegate.  Interment will be in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown.
