Gwendolyn F. Baird

Gwendolyn F. “Nana” Baird ,  of Wilkes-Barre, PA, passed away after an illness on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Gwen was born September 9, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, the daughter of the late Freda Pearl and William Lloyd Fenstermacher. She was educated in the Wilkes Barre schools and worked for Social Security Administration until her children were born.  She returned to work as a bookkeeper for many years in various industries before retiring. Gwen was married to George Baird and would have celebrated her 61st wedding anniversary on September 18. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

In addition to her loving husband George, she is survived by her son David, Wilkes-Barre, PA; daughter, Dr. Michelle Baird Pusey and her husband Dr. Frank O. Pusey Jr., Blythewood, SC, and son Jeffrey and his wife Susan Zingale-Baird, Philadelphia, PA; six grandchildren, Justine and Jessica Baird, Philadelphia, PA; Heather and Crystal Pusey Blythewood, SC; and David Baird Jr. (D.J.) and Meredythe Baird, Wilkes-Barre PA. She is also survived by her caring sister Janet and brother-in-law Edward Jacobs, Wilkes-Barre and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nana was well known for her passionate dedication to her grandchildren’s dance and sports activities.  She was an avid baseball and football fan and was best known for her assortment of delicious homemade Christmas cookies.

 A funeral service will be held at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home, South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA, on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11am.  Pastor Peter Kuritz will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.  Friends may call Wednesday from 6-9pm and Thursday prior to service.
