Gilbert R. Schaffer, Jr.

Gilbert R. Schaffer, Jr., 53, of Wilkes-Barre passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at his home. He was born in Philadelphia on September 22, 1962, a son of the late Gilbert R. Schaffer, Sr. and Lilly (Schlack) Schaffer, White Haven, PA.

Gilbert attended Carson Long Military School, where he was voted in as president of his class. He also obtained his Bachelor's degree from Penn State with much of his studies focused around music. He had a true passion for music, as he loved to sing and play many instruments including the piano, guitar, and trumpet. He was also known for expertly restoring and tuning pianos. Other interests included muscle cars and trips to Christian Camp in the Adirondacks.

Gilbert was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Wilkes-Barre and enjoyed volunteering his time there, as he had a passion for helping others in need. He will be remembered for his good-hearted nature and concern for others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert R. Schaffer, Sr.

In addition to his mother, Lilly, left to cherish his memory is his sister Lilly H. Schaffer.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 A.M. at Calvary Bible Church, 186 Sambourne Street, Wilkes-Barre 18701. Pastor Sam Garnet will be officiating. A private interment will follow at White Marsh Memorial Park in Ambler, PA.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at Kniffen O’Malley Leffler Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 465 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre 18701. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Calvary Bible Church, 186 Sambourne St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
