Cletus T. Demellier, 93, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday evening, January 27, 2016 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on May 23, 1922, he was a son of the late George A. and Kathleen A. (Forestal) Demellier.
Mr. Demellier was a veteran of World War II having served in the Navy Sea Bees. He served in the Aleutian Islands and was also serving in Okinawa, Japan when Hiroshima was bombed.
He was a life member of Holy Savior Church, Wilkes-Barre. He was also a member of American Legion Post 132, Kingston. He loved fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a great handyman who could fix anything.
He retired from Carter Footwear where he was a mechanic supervisor. He later worked as a crossing guard.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Mary (Reinhart) Demellier; 2 brothers, Leo and George; sister Kathleen Andes.
Surviving are his sons, Cletus Francis Demellier and his wife, Hazle, Wilkes-Barre; Gerard Cletus Demellier and his wife, Sally, West Pittston; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Demellier, Lake Carey; sister, Irene McCloskey, CT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call Monday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
